Frequently Asked Questions

What is the shelf life of Purolite MB400?
Unopened and kept in its original factory-sealed bag under proper conditions, Purolite MB400 has a recommended shelf life of up to 2 years from the date of manufacture.
Can Purolite MB400 be regenerated and reused?
Technically yes, but practically no for standard non-industrial setups. Regeneration requires hydraulic backwashing to separate the cation and anion components by density, regenerating the cation resin with acid (HCl or H₂SO₄) and the anion resin with caustic soda (NaOH), and then intimately remixing them using oil-free compressed air. For most applications, replacing spent resin with fresh MB400 is far more cost-effective.
What water quality does Purolite MB400 produce?
Under standard operating conditions with RO or low-TDS feed water, MB400 produces fully demineralised water with a conductivity under 0.1 µS/cm, resistivity up to 18.2 MΩ·cm, and 0 PPM total dissolved solids (TDS).
What is the recommended service flow rate for MB400?
The optimal operating flow rate is typically between 10 and 40 Bed Volumes per hour (BV/h). For example, a 10-litre vessel filled with MB400 is designed to handle flow rates of roughly 100 to 400 litres per hour, depending on incoming raw water TDS and required output purity.
Why am I seeing high conductivity or TDS breakthrough early?
Premature breakthrough is usually caused by: Channeling: Water carving preferential paths through the bed due to poor distribution. Excessive Velocity: Exceeding the maximum recommended service flow rate. Upstream Contamination: High levels of free chlorine or organics in the feed water fouling or degrading the anion resin. Dried Resin: Resin that partially dried out before loading, leading to fractured beads and short-circuiting.
