Ecosoft HF-4040 4" x 40" High Flow, Extra Low Energy Reverse Osmosis Membrane

The Ecosoft HF-4040 High Flow Reverse Osmosis Membrane is a high-performance 4" x 40" commercial RO membrane element designed to deliver excellent permeate production and high salt rejection while operating at very low pressure. Its extra-low-energy design makes it particularly suitable for commercial and light industrial reverse osmosis systems where reduced operating pressure and efficient water production are important.

Manufactured using polyamide thin-film composite (TFC) membrane technology, the HF-4040 provides a nominal permeate flow of 10.2 m³/day (approximately 425 litres per hour) under standard test conditions, with 98% stabilised salt rejection and a minimum salt rejection of 97.5%.

Ecosoft recommends the HF-4040 for feed water with a TDS of up to 1,500 mg/L, making it an excellent choice for the treatment of mains and other relatively low-salinity water supplies.

Extra Low Pressure, High Flow Performance

One of the key advantages of the Ecosoft HF-4040 membrane is its ability to achieve high permeate production at substantially lower operating pressures than conventional commercial RO membranes. The manufacturer's rated performance of 10.2 m³/day is achieved at a test pressure of just 6.9 bar, with 500 mg/L NaCl feed water at 25°C.

This low-pressure performance can help reduce the energy required by the RO system's high-pressure pump while maintaining excellent treated-water production, making the HF-4040 particularly attractive for energy-efficient commercial reverse osmosis installations.

Designed for Ecosoft Commercial RO Systems

The HF-4040 is used within Ecosoft commercial reverse osmosis systems including the MO6500, MO12000, MO24000 and MO36000 ranges. Actual membrane output will depend on feed-water temperature, salinity, operating pressure and overall system configuration. The manufacturer's performance charts demonstrate how permeate production reduces as feed-water TDS increases and/or water temperature falls.

Important Pre-Treatment Requirements

Correct pre-treatment is essential for maintaining membrane performance and service life. Feed water should have a maximum SDI of 5, and residual chlorine should be removed before the water reaches the membrane.

Although the stated free-chlorine tolerance is <0.1 mg/L, Ecosoft warns that chlorine and other oxidising agents can cause premature membrane failure and recommends removing residual chlorine during pre-treatment.

For chlorinated mains water, suitable carbon pre-filtration should therefore be incorporated into the RO system design.

Why Choose the Ecosoft HF-4040?

The Ecosoft HF-4040 4" x 40" RO membrane combines high permeate production, excellent salt rejection and exceptionally low-pressure operation. With a nominal capacity of 10,200 litres per day, it provides an efficient membrane solution for commercial RO systems where reducing energy consumption without sacrificing water production is a priority.

Its standard 4" x 40" format also makes it suitable for integration into appropriately designed commercial membrane housings, subject to confirming system operating conditions and compatibility.

Please note: Actual permeate production and treated-water quality will vary according to feed-water TDS, temperature, pressure, recovery and water chemistry.
