How the Two-Stage Filtration Works

Stage 1 – Ecosoft DGD Dual Gradient Sediment Filter

The first stage uses the Ecosoft DGD-PP20/5 4.5" × 20" Dual Gradient Sediment Cartridge. Manufactured from dual-density polypropylene, this premium cartridge captures larger particles on the outer layers while progressively filtering finer particles within the inner core. This design offers significantly greater dirt-holding capacity and a longer service life than conventional sediment cartridges.

The DGD filter effectively removes:

Important Flow Rate & Application Information

⚠️ CRITICAL WATER LIMITS: The supplied Ecosoft FERROMIX cartridge is highly optimized for private well or municipal sources where the raw inlet iron content does not exceed 1 mg/L (1 ppm).

Although the rigid Aquapoint XL Duo steel housing framework is hydraulically capable of passing flow rates up to 0.9 m³/hour (15 LPM) without bottlenecking your home's water pressure, the FERROMIX cartridge has a strict recommended purification flow rate of 5 Litres Per Minute (0.3 m³/hour) for optimum iron reduction.

Iron removal depends entirely on chemistry and sufficient "contact time" between the water and the specialized media. If water passes through the cartridge too quickly, the contact time is slashed, lowering iron removal efficiency. At higher flow rates—particularly when several taps, showers, or appliances are operating simultaneously—traces of iron may remain in the treated water.

For this reason, this filtration kit is best suited to:

When should you step up to a Backwashing System?

The FERROMIX cartridge features a maximum chemical capacity of up to 10,000 Litres and a maximum service life of 6 months (whichever comes first, after which the catalytic blends naturally deplete).

For larger homes with multiple bathrooms, higher daily water consumption, or elevated iron levels above 1 mg/L, we recommend a fully automatic backwashing iron removal filter. These systems contain a significantly larger volume of specialist media and automatically clean themselves through periodic backwashing, providing much greater treatment capacity, longer contact time, and superior iron removal performance for demanding whole-house applications.

If your borehole water contains high iron concentrations, manganese, iron bacteria, or severe staining, a dedicated backwashing iron removal system will generally provide a more effective long-term solution than a cartridge-based filter.
