limitron Hardness monitoring unit

Producer

The limitron automatic hardness control device without its own controller is installed in the feed of the reverse osmosis system and serves to protect the membranes by continuously monitoring the soft water for residual hardness. The measuring principle is based on resin shrinkage or expansion, so the device does not require any chemicals or water. The potential-free change-over contact of the limitron is connected to the corresponding digital input of a reverse osmosis with microprocessor controller or with PLC.
If the limitron hardness control unit is to be supplied already installed in the reverse osmosis system, the article "Installation limitron in RO system" (art. no. 370 078) must also be ordered.

Benefits

  • Proven and reliable hardness control device
  • No use of water and chemicals
  • No complex maintenance and calibration required
  • Easy replacement of the shrink resin sensor

Applications

  • Installation after softening plants to protect a downstream reverse osmosis from hard water breakdown

Protection class:
IP 54
Contact:
floating
Conditions of use:
An overpressure protection must be installed in the feed water line upstream of the hardness control unit. The spare sensor must be flushed with soft water before installation and soaked in soft water / permeate when stored. When connecting the potential-free changeover contact to the control unit of the reverse osmosis, the maximum contact load (see technical data) must be observed.
Loading max.:
50 V DC/AC / 0.15 A / 3 W
Ambient temperature:
0 – 40 °C
Feed water pressure:
2 – 6 bar

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of the Limitron Automatic Hardness Monitoring Unit 1.25" 370 044?
Core Functions & Operating Principle Chemical-Free Monitoring: Unlike colorimetric analyzers (such as the Testomat series) that consume indicators for every test, the Limitron operates via a mechanical resin shrinkage and expansion principle. Mechanical Sensor Shift: The internal sensor contains a specialized indicator resin. When exposed to soft water, the resin maintains its volume. The moment a hardness breakthrough occurs, the mineral exchange causes the resin bed to instantly shrink or expand. Direct PLC/Microprocessor Signaling: The unit does not include its own standalone electronic controller display (distinguishing it from the Limitent series). Instead, it features a potential-free changeover contact (reed contact switch) designed to plug directly into the digital fault inputs of an external RO microprocessor controller or an industrial PLC framework. Automated Plant Protection: When a hardness breakthrough triggers the reed switch, it instantly sends a fault signal to the central RO panel, allowing the system to automatically shut down or switch over to prevent irreversible scaling of the polyamide membranes.
How does the Limitron Automatic Hardness Monitoring Unit protect my reverse osmosis system?
The Limitron Automatic Hardness Monitoring Unit continuously monitors residual hardness in the soft water feed, helping to prevent hard water breakdown in downstream reverse osmosis membranes, thereby extending their lifespan.
Does the Limitron Hardness Monitoring Unit require chemicals or water for operation?
No, the device uses a resin shrinkage or expansion measuring principle that does not require any chemicals or additional water, making it a clean and eco-friendly solution.
Is the Limitron unit easy to maintain and calibrate?
Yes, the device requires no complex maintenance or calibration, and the resin shrink sensor can be easily replaced when needed, simplifying ongoing upkeep.
Can the Limitron Monitoring Unit be installed directly into my reverse osmosis system?
Yes, the unit can be installed directly in your system's feed line, and if you prefer it to come pre-installed, you can order the compatible version with the installation included (art. no. 370 078).
What are the technical specifications and installation requirements for the Limitron Automatic Hardness Monitoring Unit?
The unit has a protection class of IP 54, coontact type floating, and requires an upstream overpressure protection device. It operates within ambient temperatures of 0-40°C, feed water pressure of 2-6 bar, and a maximum contact load of 50V/DC/AC, 0.15A, 3W.
