The Pentair Pentek PCC-1 Scale Inhibiting Cartridge is a 10" polyphosphate cartridge designed to help reduce lime scale, corrosion and iron staining in water systems and equipment.

Containing hexametaphosphate crystals, the PCC-1 slowly releases polyphosphate into the water. This helps keep hardness minerals suspended and separated, reducing their tendency to precipitate and form hard scale deposits when water is heated.

The cartridge is particularly suitable for protecting equipment such as water heaters, coffee machines, vending machines, ice machines and food service equipment, where scale build-up can reduce efficiency and shorten equipment life.

Scale, Corrosion & Iron Protection

The PCC-1 provides three key forms of water treatment:

Scale Control
Polyphosphate helps keep hardness particles separated, reducing their ability to precipitate and form lime scale deposits when heated. Suitable for water with hardness levels up to 15 grains per gallon (approximately 257 mg/L as CaCO₃).

Corrosion Control
The treatment helps form a protective coating on metal surfaces, reducing the effects of factors such as acidity, alkalinity, hardness and chlorides that can contribute to corrosion of pipes and water-using equipment.

Iron Control
Dissolved iron up to 1 ppm can be sequestered and kept suspended in the water, helping prevent precipitation that may otherwise cause staining and discolouration.

Fits Standard 10" Filter Housings

The PCC-1 is specifically designed for standard 10" filter housings. Unlike some of the smaller PCC cartridges, it is not intended for Slim Line housings.

Important Information

The Pentair PCC-1 is a scale inhibitor rather than a water softener. It does not physically remove calcium and magnesium hardness from the water. Instead, the polyphosphate treatment helps prevent these minerals from forming hard deposits on equipment and surfaces.

Cartridge life will vary depending on water hardness, flow rate, water consumption and operating conditions. Pentair advises that PCC cartridges can provide treatment for up to approximately six months under suitable conditions.

Do not use with microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown microbiological quality without adequate disinfection before or after the filtration system.
