pH systems would normally be back washed at regular intervals to clear the media of debris and ensure it isn't able to solidify. As this system utilises a simple in/out head it should be plumbed in reverse i.e. the inlet pipe goes to the outlet of the head and the outlet pipe goes to the inlet port of the head. This has the effect of sending flow down the centre tube and up through the media bed (UPFLOW filtration), thus reducing the chances of the media being able to settle and solidiffy*. It is in effect being back washed as you use it.

The juraperle (calcium carbonate) raises pH by slowly dissolving into your water. This means the media needs topping up from time to time. Usually you would have to remove the inlet and outlet pipes then remove the head to top up the juraperle media. The dome hole port on the vessel allows you to top up the vessel without having to dismatle your systems saving a lot of time and effort. It also allows you to check the level of your media from time to time.

The consumption rate of the juraperle depends on site conditions.

*Note: If the inlet water contains iron or manganese it is recomended to use a backwashing unit instead to prevent media binding.
